Situated in the north of Shanxi Province, Datong is an ancient city with a history of more than 2,400 years and regarded as one of the 24 historical and cultural cities of China. The city is endowed with rich cultural relics, such as Yungang Grottoes, Huayan Temple and Nine Dragon Screen. With a 2 days/1 night, you will have a quick look at the city and visited the world famous relics.
Upon arrival you will meet your local guide at train station and drive to the Hanging Temple , 65 km away Southeast of Datong. The temple hangs on the Western cliff of a hill that reaches over 50 meters above the ground, hence the name Hanging Monastery. The Hanging Monastery was first built in 491. The present monastery was mainly rebuilt and maintained in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). The biggest attraction of Hanging Temple is the fact that the temple includes elements of the Buddhist, Taoist and Confucianist traditions. After the visit you will be transferred to your hotel in Datong.

Your will be picked by your tour guide at your hotel. The first stop will be the Yungang Grottoes. These grottoes are another main reason why most people pay a visit to Datong. The grottoes hold over 50,000 Buddhist statues and stretch for about 1 km from east to west.
After lunch, you move on to Shanhua Monastery, located in central Datong within the old city walls. The monastery was first constructed during the Tang dynasty (618-907AD).
Then, you will have a close look at Nine Dragon Screen, one of the three noted Nine Dragons Screens in China. The glazed tile screen was built in 1771 during the administration of Emperor Qianlong. It is 3.5 meters high and about 30 meters long. It consists of 270 pieces glazed tiles, having 9 featuring dragons playing with pearls with a background of clouds and sea water.
After this visit you will be transferred to the train station for the next leg of your journey.
