Discerning travellers in search of unique experiences off the tourist trail are highly advised to embark on this five-day exploration of Nakohn Sri Thammarat. Situated in Southern Thailand, this province features pristine beaches, rugged mountain ranges and dense rainforests. It also offers opportunities to engage in authentic activities.
After arrival at Nakhon Sri Thammarat Airport, or the provincial capital, guests are collected and transferred to the Aava Resort in the small seaside town of Khanom, with day one set aside for pure relaxation. After checking-in, it is time to explore the idyllic surroundings of this hotel situated on a beautiful beach that stretches for 9-km. The clear blue ocean is the natural habitat of a rare species of pink dolphin. This tranquil environment offers a serene stay. The bungalow-style rooms feature a terrace, jacuzzi bathtubs and complimentary Wi-Fi. Dinner on the first night is served al fresco alongside the beach. Overnight at Aava Resort.

An early rise is followed by breakfast and we are then ready to start a day of exciting exploration. We transfer to Laem Prathap Pier and board a traditional long-tail boat. We will keep a respectful distance as we seek to spot the rare pink dolphins that are native to this maritime area. We then view some unusual ‘pancake rock’ formations. After lunch at a local restaurant, we head to a natural fish spa in Suan Ta San where we can dangle our feet in the open water and get a free and rejuvenating exfoliation treatment from small fish. Next, we head to Khao Wang Thong Cave, an exceptional natural limestone formation that contains ancient stalagmites and stalactites that resemble pagodas, waterfalls, fruit and other worldly objects. When reflected by the light, these become even more impressive. Our varied excursion continues to Samet Chun Waterfall where we absorb the beauty of a large aqua-blue pool at the foot of a series of falls, cascading down a hillside creating smaller, equally beautiful, clear pools, all positioned in an idyllic jungle setting. We then return to the resort where we overnight. Overnight at Aava Resort.

After a 7 am breakfast at the resort, our day of exploration commences. We first head to Wat Chedi Ai Khai. This is known as the ‘good luck temple’ and it attracts scores of devotees who seek favourable divine intervention from Ai Khai, or ‘egg boy.’ Prayers and offerings are made to the statue as Buddhists believe it contains the spirit of a boy with the power to grant wishes. After viewing this revered effigy, we head to Baan Laem Home Stay, a traditional and predominantly Muslim community that makes a sustainable living from fishery activities. After interacting with locals and absorbing their time-honoured traditions, we head out to try some sea mud bathing. The minerals in the mud are believed to detoxify and cleanse the skin. After a delicious seafood lunch with Baan Laem residents, we visit a pottery centre and mulberry farm to witness skilled artisans create pots and paper products. After a day packed with diverse activities, we return to the resort at around 4 pm. Overnight at Aava Resort.

As with all the days on this excursion, we start early and after breakfast, we check-out of the resort. Our first visit is to Wat Phra Maha That Woramaha Viharn. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the leading Buddhist temple in Southern Thailand and it dates back the 13th century. To get a scale of its historical and religious importance, this temple is featured on the 25 satangs (Thai cents) coins. Besides absorbing the beauty of this structure, there is a square gallery called Wihan Tap Kaset, decorated with abundant statues of Buddha and three small museums in the temple’s precinct to view. From religious exploration we switch to cultural discovery with a visit to the home of Mr Suchart Subsin, a once famed and expert puppet show master. Although Mr Suchart passed away in 2015, his promotion of this art form lives on through performances in an on-site theatre. After lunch at a local restaurant, we transfer to the Sri Pakpra Boutique Resort. Overnight at Sri Pakpra Boutique Resort.

Our inspirational tour starts at 5.30 am with a three-hour tour of Thale Noi Waterfowl Park, just as this sanctuary springs to life. Supporting over 180 species of local and migratory birds and protected under an international wetlands preservation treaty, this is Thailand’s largest waterfowl reserve. We get a true back-to-nature experience in this idyllic location while travelling in small boats to see birds that have migrated from afar as Siberia. We then head back to our accommodation for breakfast, followed by a trip to Varni and Craft Homestay. This attraction offers a master class in the decoration of the krajood bag, a must-have fashion item for many Thai females. Our journey continues a very short distance to the adjacent Thalae Noi Village, a charming destination featuring narrow, raised thoroughfares where we will encounter families hand-crafting wicker harvested on the shores of the nearby lake into floor mats and baskets. Today’s itinerary includes an optional stylised manora (dance) performance at Wat Tha Kae. After a farewell lunch, we proceed to Hat Yai Airport and the conclusion of this excellent tour that has revealed exceptional attractions and experiences in a region of the country few tourists get to see.

Travel breaks down borders and brings people together: The nearly 900 million people who travel every year make the sector one of the biggest in the world, a major employer and a key element in the global economy. But this has its downside, too: increasing pollutant emissions from the tourist traffic, loss of coastlines and other landscapes through excessive building development and sexual exploitation of children are just some of the negative consequences of the growth in global tourist travel. In order to minimize the negative impacts and enhance the positive ones, our Corporate Responsibility Strategy focuses on four prime issues:
