Deluxe Tropical Tent River View
3 days, 2 nights
Explore Nam Cat Tien National Park, one of the world’s most important and diverse tropical forests. Nam Cat Tien is located 170 km from Ho Chi Minh City, mid-way to Dalat and is best discovered with a two-night stay. It can easily be combined with Dalat or Phan Thiet beach extensions. Stay in the heart of the national park for an authentic jungle escape away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The tour serves up trekking along botanical trails, a rare chance to see Siamese crocodiles in the wild and undertake night wildlife watching.
Leave behind the hustle and bustle of busy Ho Chi Minh City as we drive from your hotel to Nam Cat Tien National Park (170 km, four hours) along roads that boast splendid scenery. We check-in to our overnight accommodation in the park (national park guesthouse or ‘Forest Floor’ lodge) and enjoy lunch. In the afternoon, we take our first easy trek (two to three hours) along trails that wind through the lowland tropical forest that is home to centuries-old trees, including Lagerstroemia or Bang Lang, Thung and Tetrameles tree, palms, cycads and ferns dotted with colourful orchids, lianas and strangler vines. We then have the rest of the day at our leisure to explore more of our natural setting. Dinner is at your own account before we set off on a night drive into the park and use a spotlight to catch the abundance of nocturnal wildlife in its natural habitat.

After breakfast, we drive along a paved track before starting our trek to Crocodile Lake (5 km one-way). As we walk through the forest, we will spot a variety of birds and, if we are lucky, some larger mammals, such as the Siamese crocodiles that inhabit this environment. These crocodiles are critically-endangered species and this is one of the last places in the world where they survive in the wild. In the afternoon, you can choose to enjoy nature’s peace, go bird watching, take a leisurely stroll, visit creatures at the Risk Bear Rescue Centre, or cycle to the ethnic minority village of Ta Lai village (11 km one-way). On the ride, we will visit a local church built with thatched leaves, cashew and vegetable gardens (the bike rental fee and bear centre entrance fee is not included). Option: Visit the Dao Tien Endangered Primate Species Centre which rescues and rehabilitates endangered bears and primates.

After a refuelling breakfast to set us up for the day, we have a last-minute chance to soak up our sublime surroundings before we start our scenic drive back to Ho Chi Minh City (170 km, four hours) along roads that boast splendid scenery. This brings our immersive three-day tour of Nam Cat Tien National Park to an end. You have the rest of the day to soak up some of Ho Chi Minh City’s sights and sounds. You can explore the markets for some souvenir shopping, feast on food at the many street-side stalls that dot the city, get your caffeine fix with a delicious Vietnamese coffee, or visit some more of the city’s sites. Alternatively, you can dig deeper into the country’s turbulent past with a visit to the War Remnants Museum’s collection of photographs, documents, uniforms and other items that date back to the Vietnam War. Or you can pay respects to the Jade Emperor – one of Taoism’s most important gods – at the Jade Emerald Pagoda, or get your culture fix at a water puppet show.
