Koh Trong offers a slice of rural Cambodia in a pretty and idyllic setting where the pace of life is slow and the villagers are welcoming. This car-free Mekong island accessible via Kratie is unspoilt with villages dotted across the island of lush rice paddies and where residents live the simple life. Visitors can swim off the beach, explore Wat Ty Pram Kbal Temple or hire a bike to explore the nine-kilometre trail around the island or travel by a cart pulled by a horse or cow to get a taste of yesteryear.
Start your Cambodian adventure exploring the bustling capital of Phnom Penh. Upon arrival at Phnom Penh International Airport, we will be met by our guide and taken to the hotel for check-in. We then get a taste of Cambodian cuisine with lunch at a local restaurant before setting off on an afternoon tour of the city. We start at the Silver Pagoda and adjacent Royal Palace. Home to Cambodia’s official royal residence, the grounds are awash with regal structures, intimate temples, collections of gifts from foreign leaders and murals that paint a picture of the country’s past. Our next stop is the National Museum, housed in sprawling grounds that contain tropical gardens and a Khmer-style terracotta museum. Here, we will browse the vast collection of Khmer sculpture and artefacts dating back to the 4th century. If time permits, we will make a stop at Independence Monument. Dinner is at our leisure. Please note: Visitors to the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda are required to keep their knees and shoulders covered. Overnight in Phnom Penh.

Steer off Cambodia’s well-trodden tourist track as we hit the road for remote Koh Trong island. After breakfast, we leave behind the hustle and bustle of capital life and drive to Kampong Cham and on to Kratie (292 km/ seven to eight hours). In the charming riverside city of Kampong Cham, we explore 12th temple complex Wat Nokor before enjoying a local lunch. We then cross the Mekong River to visit Chup, a rubber plantation established by French tyre maker, Michelin. We continue to Kratie via Chhlong, a quaint village home to a pristine collection of Khmer and French colonial architecture. Upon arrival in Kratie, we catch a ferry to sleepy Koh Trong, where we check-in at our accommodation and have the rest of the evening at our leisure to laze into laidback island life. Please note: Rooms are fan-only, with no television and minibar. Ferries run from 6.30 am to 8 pm. Guests should prepare a small overnight bag in case luggage is kept in the transport. Overnight on Koh Trong.

Get a glimpse into contrasting life on Koh Trong and mainland Kratie with today’s immersive adventure. After breakfast, we employ pedal power to explore the island. The narrow tracks that sit in the dappled shade of the trees that flank them are perfectly designed for cycling. We pass by traditional stilted homes and children screaming, “hello”, grazing buffalo and farmland. The island is famed for its grapefruit and is a self-sustaining community that produces a variety of fruits and agricultural products, such as rice, soy beans, milk fruit and coconuts, to sell in Kratie town. After lunch, we board a ferry and return to Kratie. Here, we spend the afternoon taking a tuk tuk tour of the tranquil riverside town. We will visit colourful local markets, French colonial architecture and ancient pagodas. We then head to the hotel, with the evening at our leisure. Overnight on Koh Trong.

Today’s cross-border adventure sees us wave goodbye to Cambodia and hello to Lao. After breakfast, we set off for Stung Treng (141 km/three hours), a bustling river port town located at the gateway to some of the wildest parts of the Mekong River. The town's history reflects its position at the junction of the Mekong and Sekong rivers and its border with Laos. People have settled here, creating a blend of Khmer and Laotian culture, language and foods. We visit Sre Po village to learn about the country’s rich silk weaving heritage at the award-winning Mekong Blue project. Operated by Stung Treng Women’s Development Centre, the project forms part of an NGO that aims to elevate underprivileged women from poverty by equipping them with the tools to earn a living while keeping alive Cambodia’s silk-weaving heritage. After lunch, we continue to Trapaing Kreal border (formerly Dong Krolor), arriving at about 2 pm. This brings an end to our four-day exploration.

Travel breaks down borders and brings people together: The nearly 900 million people who travel every year make the sector one of the biggest in the world, a major employer and a key element in the global economy. But this has its downside, too: increasing pollutant emissions from the tourist traffic, loss of coastlines and other landscapes through excessive building development and sexual exploitation of children are just some of the negative consequences of the growth in global tourist travel. In order to minimize the negative impacts and enhance the positive ones, our Corporate Responsibility Strategy focuses on four prime issues:
