We designed a few family activities deeply set into the heart of the hutongs and related to Chinese culture: crickets fighting, tenon architecture, mask painting, diablo juggling, and more. You will learn new things about chinese culture and have fun doing it!

This module activities will be Crickets culture and Tenon.

In China, there are many ancient timber buildings The typical feature of the ancient
timber frames in China lies in the natural connection mode of the joints without a
metal nail or bolt this is your opportunity to learn more about ancient Chinese architecture and carpentry work, as the mortise and tenon structure is also used in ancient Chinese furniture.
While about crickets, in Beijing is a passion that runs deep in the older generation: let’s see to understand a bit more of this world.

Set then onto a hutong exploration by rickshaw, ending by the characteristic lake of Houhai: here you may board a boat for a suggestive cruise, or by winter time –  when all is frozen – have fun on the ice.

Half Day

The day will start in Gulou, back of the Drum Tower, at 9 am. Class will be conducted in the private yard, for 45 minutes approximately for each subject. (Tenon and Crickets) Snacks and fruit juices are available. Then by 11:00 your rickshaw will dive into hutong exploration, leaving you by the lakeside, to join your boat or ice fun! End of the program will be by 12:30 approximately. In detail concerning Tenon you will experience you will approach the following: - Working Principle of Various Woodworking Tools - Restoration of Various Ancient Woodworking Inventions - Experience the Origin and Evolution of Tenon and mortise with your hands - Interpretation of various woodworking-related knowledge (es. Fengshui) - a lot of interesting things that you think you know but you don't About the Crickets In Beijing, cricket passion runs deep in the older generation: people love to keep crickets and watch them fight, or simply listen to their calming sound. Cricket is very well treated, with prime food and space. The lifetime of the cricket is only 100 days and ends with a special coffin prepared with sympathy.

Carbon Emission Initiative - Gold Standard

As of 2020 Asian Trails has introduced a voluntary carbon offsetting initiative for our travellers to compensate for unavoidable emissions during their tours with us. Emissions during multi-day package tours (not including international flights to our destinations) are pegged at a cost of $1.50 per traveller per day. This amount is based on average daily emissions of travellers across our eight destinations. Contributions from clients to our carbon offsetting initiative will go into a destination-specific fund to support climate protection projects certified to Gold Standard in that country. Certification to Gold Standard assures that the projects supported through our carbon offsetting initiative not only reduce harmful emissions but also positively contribute to sustainable development. Our contributions to projects in a country will be relative to the CO2 emitted by our travelers in that destination.
