Start the day with a visit to Shanxi Museum, the largest museum and cultural building in Shanxi, the home to about 400,000 cultural relics and 110,000 old books. (Closed on Monday)
After lunch, step into Jin Ancestral Temple, founded in Tang Dynasty about 1,400 years ago as one of earliest royal garden in China. It is the most prominent temple in Shanxi, with its architectures, murals and sculptures of Tang Dynasty that are of high value in arts and history.
Tonight, enjoy a leisure stroll in the Food Street of Taiyuan, where you can enjoy local snacks not only from Shanxi but also from other cities of China.

A 2.5 hours’ drive takes you to an ancient castle, one of the rarest and unique displays of traditional urban planning in Chinese history. The town’s residential, shopping and religious areas are all built within a beautifully designed Chinese-style castle complex. Stroll through the labyrinth of mysterious tunnels that meander extensively underneath the town. An inconspicuous entrance inside an ordinary local home that leads to a fascinating underground world spread across three levels that once served as defense tunnels after its completion at the end of the Sui dynasty (581AD to 619AD).
Visit A Private Mansion, a luxurious residence built during 1762-1811 by the descendants of a rich Family - one of the Four Families of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) in Shanxi Province. It is not just a residential architecture but also a museum of architectural art.

Today’s highlight is no other than the breath-taking Hukou Waterfall. Not only is the Hukou Waterfall the second largest waterfall in China, it is also the only magnificent yellow waterfall in the world. The reason behind the name of Hukou Waterfall (Kettle Spout Falls) is because its riverbed is shaped like an enormous teapot absorbing all the rushing water. Its rumbling sound, grand vigor and the marvelous scenery will leave you in awe.
Continue to Yuncheng. En route, make a stop at a hidden county in west Shanxi, where you will be surprised by the beautiful murals in the a Grave. It consists of 14 brick tombs in a shape of quadrangle, some of which were built with caves, pavilion, and palace. The walls of the underground palace were decorated with beautiful murals, which show the ancient lifestyle and emphasis on arts at that time.
Arrive in Yuncheng in the late afternoon.
